SHANDON, Calif. — A two-week paving operation will change travel on eastbound Highway 46 near Shandon beginning Monday, November 2, 2026. Caltrans District 5 says the work is scheduled through Friday, November 13, with intermittent single-lane restrictions between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Highway 46 and the Highway 41 connection
Crews will pave eastbound Highway 46 between post miles 45.32 and 46.00, including both travel lanes and the right-turn pocket at the Highway 46/41 turnoff. The state says drivers should anticipate delays of up to 10 minutes.
The most significant local change is scheduled for Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3. Caltrans plans daytime closures of the Highway 46/41 off-ramp connection through the Highway 41 entrance in Shandon along West Centre Street, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Caltrans detour into eastbound Highway 46
According to the state announcement, motorists coming south on Highway 41 who need to enter eastbound Highway 46 should turn left onto Starky Road, continue to Truesdale, turn left onto East Centre Street, and then reach Highway 46. Drivers should follow posted detour signs rather than relying solely on navigation apps while the work is underway.
These are planned closures. Weather, equipment and work progress may change the hours or location. The route is important for Shandon households, local businesses and people traveling between the North County and the Central Valley.
